In late 2012 it was recognised that Sunsuper needed to grow our product management capability to be better placed to develop, implement and release new products. To provide us with the necessary focus, we created three new Product Manager roles to report into a newly created GM role. Filling the GM role and two of the Product Manager roles was a relatively simple and efficient recruitment process. We advertised through the usual job boards and print media and were able to fill the three roles in less than 30 working days.
The final role, the Manager, Insurance Products was not as easily filled. We received over 60 direct applicants and additional 10 resumes from the five recruitment agencies we engaged. We conducted a number of first and second round interviews but we were unable to identify a candidate that ticked the boxes from a technical and cultural perspective.
Six months after starting the recruitment process I received an introductory phone call from Ensure Recruitment who had heard through the grapevine that we were looking for a Product Manager. Eight days after taking the initial phone call, Ensure presented us with two candidates. The quality of the two candidates were outstanding!! We interviewed both candidates once over the phone, as both were interstate, and once face to face. Three days later reference checks were completed and an offer was made. In less than a month Ensure Recruitment had filled a role that had taken us over 200 days to fill. To say that I was over the moon would be an understatement.
