Claims Capability Specialist | Life Insurance

This role sits at the intersection of operations, technical coaching and capability uplift.

You won’t be managing a portfolio all day, but this also isn’t generic corporate L&D removed from the realities of claims operations. Instead, you’ll partner closely with Claims Leaders, Technical Specialists and frontline teams to improve onboarding, capability, technical confidence and decision consistency across a busy Life Claims environment.

On any given day, that might mean:
  • Supporting new starters and refreshing onboarding material
  • Facilitating practical, scenario‑based learning sessions
  • Coaching experienced assessors around consistency and technical judgement
  • Identifying patterns in decision‑making and helping teams reduce variation
  • Working with leaders to uplift delegation and reduce “leakage” from QA and rework
This is a highly embedded, floor‑focused role for someone with enough technical depth and frontline credibility to influence teams on day‑to‑day claims decisions.

About You
You’ll likely come from a Life or Superannuation claims environment, with a track record of making a tangible difference to how teams operate.

You might already be a claims capability specialist, QA or coaching professional, Technical Specialist, Senior Assessor or operational L&D professional with real claims‑floor exposure.

Either way, you’ll need:
  • A solid background in life or superannuation claims (illness, injury, income protection, permanent disability)
  • Demonstrable capability and coaching experience – not just facilitation
  • Experience in practical training design and scenario‑based learning
  • The ability to work with Team Managers and Technical Specialists to influence change
  • Proof you’ve improved decision accuracy, consistency, onboarding effectiveness or delegation
I’m not looking for someone who’s spent the last five years delivering generic training from a PowerPoint deck.

This needs to be someone who still has a genuine connection to the operational side of claims. Someone with enough technical depth and frontline credibility to walk into a live claims environment, hold their own with experienced assessors and actually add value beyond theory or facilitation.
