Legal Counsel - In-House Defendant Lawyer - Workers Compensation

We have partnered with a stable and growing workers compensation organisation who has created a Legal Counsel/Specialist role to support the Senior Legal Counsel and the claims function.

For you;

You will;

• Arrange appropriate investigations and collection of evidence required to make soundly-based liability decisions and to assess psychological and physical claims for workers compensation entitlements
• Draft letters of instruction and prepare evidence briefs for independent medical examiners and factual investigators
• Support Senior Legal Counsel, Technical Manager and external legal providers to respond to internal requests for review and applications to resolve a dispute

Your background will include;

• Legal qualifications ideally with a practicing certificate
• Demonstrated experience practicing in personal injury law/workers compensation (ideally on the defendant side)
• Knowledge of, and ability to interpret and strategically apply, NSW workers compensation legislation and applicable case law
• A strong understanding of the workers compensation dispute resolution process and Commission proceedings
• Experience working with workers compensation self-insurance would be highly regarded
